FROM PIANC YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Information from the Young-Professionals-Implementation Group

A YP-Implementation-group was established last year. Objectives of the YP-group are (i) the integration of all membership in PIANC-activities including Young Professionals, (ii) to attract new members for PIANC and (iii) to retain existing members in PIANC. Therefore, several actions were defined in an action plan which have been classified in four categories :

  • Electronic communication
  • Representation of Young Professionals
  • Promotion of PIANC
  • Knowledge transfer

The last meeting of the YP-group was in Brussels on February 6 to define and specify those actions to be carried out within the following months. Tasks were allocated to the individual members of the YP-group. The most important tasks for the following months are :

  • the set-up of a YP-website
  • YP representation in PIANC working groups
  • creation of national YP-groups

Creation of national YP-groups is regarded as the most important aspect to attract new young members for PIANC. PIANC is in competition with other mostly national professional organisations. Therefore, PIANC has to attract young members in their countries when they are not fixed to any other professional organisation. This is at the end of their studies or at the beginning of their professional career. The YP-group will initiate the creation of national YP-groups and helps to establish these groups based on the international experience with the creation of national YP-groups as in Belgium, The Netherlands or Spain.

The YP-group is composed by members of eleven different countries (Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, USA, UK, South Africa, Japan, Spain, India, The Netherlands). Other countries are invited to nominate young members for the YP-Implementation Group.
