February 2008 Edition

YP-Com had a prosperous year in 2007. Four national sections (India, Iran, Portugal and Serbia) joined YP-Com, resulting in a total of fifteen national sections represented by twenty-one Young Professionals (YP's).

NEWS FROM YP-COM

On 29 September 2006, the first meeting of the new YP-Com was held in Palermo, Italy, hosted by Elio Ciralli from the Italian national section. The main objectives of the meeting were to determine the structure of YP-Com and to initiate an action plan for the years 2007 to 2010.

GERMAN YP´S VISIT THE VESSEL TRAFFIC SERVICE CENTRE IN BREMEN

The third meeting of the German YP-Group was held on 30 March 2006 at the Federal Waterways and shipping administration office (WSA) in Bremen. Seven YP's and Uwe Fischer, secretary of the German PIANC section, attended the meeting and visited the Vessel Traffic Service Centre at WSA Bremen.

SOUTH AFRICAN YP VISIT TO RESEARCH COUNCIL
March 2006 Edition

The second YP site visit was held on 27 January 2006 at the offices of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The event was well attended by thirty-four delegates from a range of specialist companies: consultants, contractors and port authority.

AND YET ANOTHER YP AWARD

At the initiative of the Young Professionals management, ExCom has decided to award three prizes for outstanding paper presentations at the 4-yearly PIANC Congresses. Three prizes of respectively € 1.000, € 500 and € 250 will be granted for both a paper and the presentation. The awards will be presented during the closing banquet, for the first time during the 32nd Congress in Estoril, Portugal. By organizing a "Young Professionals Paper Award", it is hoped to make the Congresses more attractive and to give an additional incentive to young PIANC members.

PIANC UK : YP'S "ON THE CREST OF THE WAVE"

A half day meeting was held at the ICE on the 11th March, with the specific aim of providing a forum for some of the younger members of the industry to demonstrate their valuable contributions to the ports and maritime sector. The meeting was chaired by Peter Hunter. It was well attended by a wide cross-section of the membership, and the programme of presentations provided a interesting variety of technical issues for discussion.

At that date, the deadline expires for new submissions for the De Paepe-Willems Award, one of the most prestigious prices in the navigation community.
